1. Social Service: Free Medical Treatment at RS Wava Husada by Yayasan Tzu Chi Sinar Mas Xie Li Malang
Yayasan Tzu Chi Sinar Mas, Xie Li Malang – PT Ekamas Fortuna organized a social service event providing free medical treatments, including cataract, hernia, and cleft lip surgeries, at RS Wava Husada Kepanjen from April 21 to 25, 2025. A total of 15 patients, comprising 10 cataract patients, 4 pterygium patients, and 1 hernia patient, received free surgeries. All patients were from the local community around the company and employees’ families. This event received high enthusiasm and is hoped to continue for the welfare of Malang Regency’s community, especially for those less fortunate. PT Ekamas Fortuna and Yayasan Tzu Chi hope this social activity brings positive impacts to both the community and the company.
2. New Hope for Cantika: A Journey of Kindness and Assistance Amid Hardship
The bond of kindness with Cantika’s family began when Taslim, a volunteer from Xie Li Serpong 1 (Wisma Indah Kiat), conducted a charity mission distributing basic necessities during the Chinese New Year celebration in Teluk Naga, Tangerang. Cantika, the third orphan of five siblings, lives with her sick grandparents in a modest, dilapidated house. Cantika cares for her grandfather, who suffers from heart disease, and her grandmother, who has liver and lung diseases, as well as her younger siblings. The family’s economic condition is very difficult, with uncertain monthly assistance, sometimes forcing them to endure hunger. Cantika once sold risoles to help meet the family’s needs but stopped due to school commitments.
One thought that crossed Taslim’s mind during his first visit to Cantika’s home was that he must return to extend the bond of kindness with them. A few weeks later, Taslim returned to Teluk Naga for a more detailed visit and survey of Cantika’s family. Based on the survey and interviews conducted, Taslim applied for assistance from Yayasan Tzu Chi, including living expenses for the grandparents, Cantika, and her siblings, as well as a laptop to support Cantika’s studies, who is currently interning at a company.
There were mixed feelings when Taslim returned on April 14, 2025. He was happy to provide a laptop and living expenses for Cantika and her family. Cantika shed tears of joy upon receiving the laptop from Tzu Chi and expressed her gratitude to the donors, as it was something she had longed for to support her education. However, there was also sadness as Taslim’s visit coincided with the passing of Cantika’s grandfather, who passed away peacefully.
Currently, Cantika is focused on completing her education and caring for her grandmother and two younger siblings. She hopes for a better future so she can bring happiness to her family.
